What is a Rapid Antigen Test?

Rapid Antigen testing is used to screen for potential COVID-19 infection in people who have no symptoms. The antigen test looks for proteins from the COVID-19 virus. It is able to detect COVID-19 when the virus is most infectious and has a faster turnaround time of 1-2 hours compared to lab based PCR. ​The Rapid Test is cost-effective and easy to administer.

What is it used for?

Rapid Antigen Test results are now recognized and accepted by certain destinations including the U.S.. Individuals travelling to these destinations by air can check in with a Negative Rapid Antigen Test result. 

It can also be used to screen for potential COVID-19 infection in the workplace and/or at schools. 

How it works?

Our nurse will use the sterile swab to collect the nasal sample from both nostrils and use the Health Canada approved device to test the specimen. We need to wait 15 minutes and then read the test result.

Understand your results?

A rapid antigen test alone cannot 100% confirm you have COVID-19. If your rapid antigen test is positive, you will require a second test, called a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, to confirm your positive COVID-19 result.
